Elsie & Fleur

Nobody knows why exactly we put up stockings on Christmas Eve for Santa to fill. In Holland in the 16th century children left their clogs by the fire filled with straw for the reindeer and hoped Sinterklaas would fill them.

There is also a story about a Turkish saint who threw coins down a chimney to help an impoverished nobleman and his daughters. The coins fell into their stockings drying by the fire, the word spread and the next year everyone put their stockings out too.
